Red Hot Dots

Red Hot Dots Bracelet

Hello again,
The holidays are behind us and we start a new year, full of hope. If you are anything like me, you have even thought about things you wish to accomplish in the new year. One of my resolutions is to write more blogs. I have so much I would like to share with you and I think each blog out in my head but then never actually sit down and write it. So to meet my resolution, I will try to blog once a week and would love to hear back from you.  Without comments from you, blogging can be very lonely at times.

Each piece of jewelry I make is one-of-a-kind and usually there is a story behind the piece or the name or why I mixed the different materials. This week I would like to share with you, "Red Hot Dots".

I have an extensive background in quilting and fabric design. In 2008, I wrote a book about creating Fabric Jewelry called  Fabric Jewelry-Wrapped, Braided and Sewn . At the time I was just starting to learn about being a silversmith and did not think about creating a piece of jewelry with both fabric and metal.

Once the book was done, I had more time to spend on creating jewelry again. I decided to see what would happen when I mix fabric with silver and "Red Hot Dots" was created. The set "stone" is actually hand-dyed batik fabric that has been treated to make the fabric waterproof which is then set in sterling silver. I added onyx beads to accent the fabric. When I was a kid I loved the Red Hots candy and this bracelet reminded me of them, so the name was found.

This piece is still available and I am happy to take custom orders to create one in the colors you love.
